Nightfall at Pedn Vounder

Inspired by one of Cornwall’s finest beaches, Pedn Vounder, which sits alongside the equally beautiful Porthcurno, looking out on Logan’s Rock to the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

The beach is tricky to access, scrambling down the rock face from the South West Coastal Path above, which is the perspective for this painting.

In this piece I was drawn to the arrival of night and the changing colours of the sky and its influence on the rock formations below. The fading light accentuates the dramatic shadows, crevices and contours of the cliffs and creates this wonderful atmosphere. Calming, soothing, peaceful yet rugged and wild at the same time.
